5 Unique Places To Stay In Devon

Europe, Travel, UK | September 22, 2021

Are you planning a romantic getaway in Devon and you’re looking for something a bit different to the usual hotels and B&Bs? There are a lot of one-of-a-kind accommodation options in the area!

Unique hideaways, a holiday letting agency focusing on unique places to stay in hidden corners across the UK, has some excellent accommodations in Devon that are a bit outside the box. I’ve teamed up with them to bring you my pick of the quirkiest, best places to stay in Devon for those looking for something a little bit different.

5 Quirky Places To Stay In Devon

Planning on hiking during your stay in Devon? My guide to the best hiking gear for women has all of my top recommendations.

1. This tranquil cabin near Dartmouth

This delightful cabin is tucked away in the woodlands, making it perfect for nature lovers. With more than enough space for two to sprawl on the king size bed, the blue and white interior is surprisingly capacious. There’s even an en-suite shower, microwave and a two ring hob!

When the weather is cold (or you’re just aiming for a romantic ambience) you can cosy up in front of the log burner with some goodies from the welcome hamper.

You won’t want to spend all your time inside though, because the cabin sits above a serene pond and has its own barbecue. Your only neighbours will be the owners’ sheep and ducks. Bliss!

While you’re staying in South Devon, venture into Dartmouth to visit the castle or have a day out in the national park, or Totnes for cute independent shops. Blackpool Sands – one of Devon’s most beautiful beaches – is just a short drive from the cabin.

2. This luxurious shepherd’s hut with a hot tub in Otter St Mary

Yes you read that right – I have found the cutest place to stay in Devon with a hot tub! Ideal for romantic getaways, this upmarket accommodation may not have electricity but it has everything you need for a relaxing break away from it all – including a pizza oven.

Slumming it isn’t an option here – there’s a hot water shower, flushing loo and a fridge.

Located in Knightstone Farm, this is the best place to stay in Devon to be close to local wildlife. You might spot deer, otters or even beavers and you’re welcome to fish in the private lake!

The hut is the perfect place to stay in Devon if you’re visiting the World Heritage Jurassic Coast.

3. This zany yurt near Clovelly

Bohemian living at its finest, this colourfully decorated yurt in Devon is bursting with character and is bound to give you a holiday you’ll never forget.

While the yurt has all the usual cooking facilities, you’ll probably want to dine al fresco and use the barbecue or fire pit after a day of wild swimming in the lake nearby. Afterwards, snuggle in front of the wood burner to warm up.

Those looking for a unique place to stay in North Devon with dogs will be thrilled to know that your pooch is welcome here. There’s plenty to see and do in the local area, from gorgeous beaches to Lundy Island, where you can immerse yourself in nature and visit the various monuments around the small island.

4. This glamping pod near Lyme Regis

Another dog-friendly place to stay in Devon, this secluded woodland glamping pod has a sitting area complete with wood burner, proper kitchen, dining area, shower room and a double bed.

Set in seven acres of woodland, this accommodation offers guests a motion-activated wildlife camera, which you can use to try to spot the local Roe deer and other animals.

Lyme Regis is a bit of a foodie haven in Devon, so it’s worth the eight mile drive there for lunch and a look around – or you can tackle the 1.5 mile walk along The River Lim Path from Lyme Regis to Uplyme.

5. This glam wagon near Crediton

‘Glam’ and ‘wagon’ may not be two words you’d typically put together, but glam this hand-crafted wagon is! It has its own private hot tub, wood burner, a fully equipped kitchen, living room, shower room and double bed on a mezzanine level.

If you’re looking for a place to stay in Devon with a hot tub that’s also dog-friendly, you’re in the right place. You can convert the dining table into a double bed, meaning the whole family can stay if you like.

From outside on the raised deck, you’ll be able to see Dartmoor ponies and beyond, the spectacular Devonshire countryside, extending to Dartmoor National Park.
