The Best Eco-Friendly Travel Shoes For Women

I’ve always struggled with choosing shoes for travel. Ideally I need a pair of shoes for every occasion and with limited luggage space and airline weight restrictions (lol, remember plane travel?), versatility is super important to me when it comes to deciding which shoes to take on trips.

The dream pair of travel shoes for women are comfortable yet stylish. They can be dressed up for drinks at a cool bar in the city you’re visiting, or dressed down for relaxed walks.

Shoes for travelling must be comfortable enough to allow you to walk long distances on all manner of terrain, and attractive enough not to ruin your Instagram pics. Life is too short to wear ugly shoes, am I right?

They must be able to withstand every season in a day (looking at you, Lake District!) and lightweight enough to not be cumbersome in your backpack.

Sustainability is important to most travellers these days too. We’re more conscious than ever now of the footprints we leave, and I know that I’ve personally been striving to support companies who align themselves with the same values.

Enter Tropicfeel.

How Tropicfeel make the best women’s shoes for travel

These travel shoes – which happen to be the most funded shoe ever on Kickstarter – were sent to me a long time ago and they’ve been sat in their box at the bottom of my wardrobe ever since. I’d completely forgotten about them! During a recent clear-out, I unearthed them and packed them for my road trip around the Lake District, determined to try them out and write a full review for women searching for the perfect travel shoe.

Tropicfeel’s shoes claim to provide ‘the benefit of water shoes, the comfort of sport shoes, and the technical outsole material of hiking shoes’. They appealed to me because they have an all-important bonus: aesthetically, they’re versatile and can be dressed up or down.

The shoes are lightweight, slip-on, water-friendly and fast-drying. They certainly felt light and comfortable when I slid them on after wearing a pair of chunky hiking boots! With an overall weight of seven pounds, they’re the ideal shoe for backpacking or squeezing in a bag that’s already tipping the scales.

I have the Monsoon Black style, which I actually think is more of a navy tone. I think if you wanted an even more versatile pair, I’d go for the Monsoon All Black or the Canyon Core Black.

If you’re travelling in summer, a pop of colour might be more appropriate – the Canyon Wasabi Green would look great with summer dresses and denim shorts!

I wore these travel shoes with jeans and with activewear during the day, and even wore them out to a bar one night. I’m the kind of girl who always prefers to be overdressed rather than underdressed, but I didn’t feel self-conscious in them.

If you were going someplace a bit cooler or need the ultimate versatile travel shoes for a city break, a plain black pair would probably be a better option than the shade I have.

I loved the SlipSock™ construction, which allows you to easily and quickly slip the travel shoes on. The SprintLaces™ and knot stopping shoe-tightening mechanism means you don’t have to worry about tying your laces or potentially tripping over loose laces. I think that’s super important for active holidays!

Environmentally friendly travel shoes

The biggest pro for me is the fact that Tropicfeel make sustainable travel shoes. As many as six recycled plastic bottles go into each pair. That’s something I’ve seen before. But here’s the truly innovative part: the insole is made with 8% ‘Bloom foam’, a material made from harvested algae. The harvesting process helps protect aquatic life.

Having had some amazing underwater experiences in the Great Barrier Reef and Turkey, I’m a big supporter of protecting our oceans.

Every responsible traveller knows that over-tourism is hurting the planet in many ways.

We should leave with only memories from the destinations we visit, and never leave a trace of our presence behind. It’s important that we look for new ways to be environmentally conscious, and Tropicfeel have solved that for us when it comes to which travel shoes to buy.

These travel shoes were made to last, meaning you’ll be wearing them for years. I love mine and will be packing them for future trips to come – whenever travel is safe again!

Do you have a favourite pair of travel shoes? If you order a pair of Tropicfeel shoes, let me know how you get on with them! I’m considering ordering another pair and I love the look of their sandals too!
