Here’s a little look at the bits and pieces I’ve enjoyed in July, from makeup to fashion buys to homeware. Because I’m super grown-up now and get excited about things like houseplants and hoovering my couch. Don’t worry though, I still do things like puke in the toilets at fancy restaurants during bottomless brunch because I drank too many overpriced cocktails the night before… Yep, that happened when I was London for my uni gal pal reunion. I guess some things will never change, eh?
Anti theft backpack
Made in London and modelled above in London, these backpacks prevent theft and look good. I’ve slowly become aware that my cheap denim backpack isn’t the safest way to carry my worldly possessions around capital cities and train stations and other such crime-heavy areas, but I didn’t want to buy an ugly weekend bag. I was gifted this black High Spirit backpack and have found it really useful for travelling, particularly because it fits my laptop, which is a massive plus for people like me who work on-the-go a lot. The only way to access the bag is through the zip that sits on your back, so nobody’s getting in to this bad lad but you. The material is also nice and durable, so I think it’ll last me a while.
River Island sunnies
This pair bring my sunglasses collection up to seven, so now I have one for every day of the week. I don’t think that’s excessive at all, because after all, you wear sunglasses on your face, which everyone can see. You wouldn’t wear the same top every day of the week, so why not have a variety of sunglasses? This rose gold pair are my current faves – you can see more pics in my Croatia outfit diary post.
Soap & Glory Archery D-I-Y Brow Bar & Supercat Eyeliner
After leaving my entire makeup collection in a hotel in Benidorm last month, I had to replace everything. It worked out well, because I discovered this little palette from Soap & Glory. This is the first time I’ve used their make-up range and I’m sold! I love that the brow kit has two shades you can mix plus a gel and a highlighter, and the fact that the brushes are actually decent. Oh, and it has a mirror. Best brow product I’ve used to far – which is handy, because I was robbed of my precious thickness when I stupidly resorted to getting them threaded in the shopping centre before Croatia. Never again.
I also got the eyeliner pen, because there was an offer in Boots. I decided to dedicate some time to actually learning how to apply it properly. A few Youtube tutorials later, I can now confirm that I can do eyeliner – if I look down into a hand mirror and use small strokes and don’t have the shakes that day. Yippee.
My go-to way to jazz up an outfit this summer so far has been throwing on a pair of brightly coloured dangly earrings, so I love this pair, pictured above. Available here.
New house plants
I was having a really crappy day near the start of the month and decided to fix it with some retail therapy. I stormed into Sunderland town centre with a severe Resting Bitch Face and spent money I shouldn’t have in Primark, then popped in to TK Maxx for a rummage. Because as we all know, the only way to find anything exciting in TK Maxx is with a good rummage. As well as two clutch bags, I snapped up a few scented candles and this pretty little fake plant to make our lounge look more put-together. Then I realised that I had to carry basically my own body weight in plant pots and candle jars home. Fun.
Oh, and shout out to French Fancies, because Mr Kipling is da man.
